New Functionality

Students

Summer (Undergrad and Grad)

Enrollments and enrollment appointments for Summer Sessions are available in the Enrollment card on the My Academics tab in CalCentral. Summer Sessions’ classes descriptions are displayed next to each class on the Semesters card, also located on the My Academics tab. Unit fees (tuition) for each session are due May 19 and if a cancellation for the term occurs, a $100 Term Cancellation fee will be applied.

 

Midterm Deficient Grades - My Academics - Semesters

Beginning March 6, students who receive a deficient midterm grade will see this information on the Semesters card of the My Academics tab in CalCentral.

 

My Academics (Graduate Students) - Committee Card

The Committee card allows graduate students to view members of their active qualifying examination, thesis, and/or dissertation committees. The card provides a photo of each active committee member assigned to important academic milestones with departmental assignments, committee role, and contact information. Completed committees will not display during this release. This partial Committee card functionality will be supplemented with completed committee membership in a future enhancement.

 

Advisors

Summer - (Undergrad and Grad)

Enrollments for Summer Sessions began on February 1. Students can now view their Summer appointments and enrollments via the Enrollment card in CalCentral. Unit fees (tuition) for each session are due May 19 and if a cancellation for the term occurs, a $100 Term Cancellation fee will be applied.

 

Midterm Deficient Grades - My Academics - Semesters

Beginning March 6, students who receive a deficient midterm grade will be able to access this information on the Semesters card of the My Academics tab in CalCentral. Advisors will be able to see these grades with the “View As” functionality. Beginning in late-March, this information will be available to advisors in the Student Lookup > Student Overview Academic Plan card.

 

Student Overview - Academic Plan

The Academic Plan card allows advisors to compare the courses listed on a student’s Multi-Year Planner with a student’s actual enrolled classes by semester. This feature enables advisors to identify when a student has altered their planned course toward graduation.

 

Student Overview - Degree Progress Card (Graduate)

The Degree Progress card highlights Graduate Division milestones for masters and doctoral students (e.g., qualifying examination, advancement, filing dates, etc.). This card will display the Graduate Division milestones along with dates and status of completion. This information will be similar to that previously found in GLOW under “Academic History.” This card is currently only available to graduate advisors. It is scheduled to be released to students in late-March.

 

Faculty and Instructors

My Academics - Committee Card

The Faculty Committee card allows faculty to track the progress and status of the graduate students they are currently advising on qualifying examination, thesis, and/or dissertation committees. Doctoral student information displayed on the Faculty Committee card includes information regarding qualifying examination committee members. Instructors will be able to track active and inactive memberships, providing helpful information for merit and promotion cases.

 

Midterm Deficient Grading - My Academics - Teaching Card

Beginning March 6, instructors will access the Midterm Grading Functionality with the Teaching card in the My Academics tab in CalCentral. Units and GPA information displayed to students via CalCentral will be updated to display the information from the student information system.

 

 

 

Reporting - Cal Answers

Cal Answers(link is external) is UC Berkeley’s analytical reporting tool that provides access to the integrated campus data warehouse. As part of the SIS Project, we are retrofitting each subject area in Cal Answers to begin using SIS Campus Solutions data.

  • The new Cal Answers Student Fees & Payments subject area and dashboard report now use SIS as their source for student financials data from Fall 2016 going forward. Historical data through Summer 2016 continues to be available in the existing Cal Answers dashboard report.

  • The updated Cal Answers Student Applicants subject area and dashboard reports now contain undergraduate admissions historical data, final 2016-17 data, and the first snapshot of 2017-18 data. The SIS Slate admissions system is now the source for this data from 2016-17 going forward.

Release 7.4 (January 2016)
New functionality for staff includes the eForms search query report and award entry item type requests. New functionality for advisors includes personal summary cards, transcript request update, and official transcript processing. New functionality for graduate students includes the special enrollment petition eForm.
 
Release 7.3 (December 2016)
New functionality for students includes a transfer credit card and transfer credit report, and academic transcripts card. New functionality for instructors includes updates to grade submission. New functionality for advisors includes the addition of My Appointments to the Advisor Dashboard, new student information in the Student Overview section, and the adding of Academic Progress Reports.
Release 7.2 (November 2016)
New functionality for students includes an academic summary page. Staff functionality upgrades include updates to transcripts in CalCentral. Advisor functionality upgrades include Dashboards, transfer credit summaries, Academic Progress Reports, Personal Summary Cards, and other tools. Advising Notes were also reconfigured based on user recommendations.
 
Release 7.1 (October 2016)
New functionality for student includes MyFinances for continuing students in fall 2016 and MyDashboard for Haas School students. Staff now have access to historical data viewing on CARS, student success reports, admits, and withdrawals. Unpaid CARS balances are now only available in CalCentral. Instructors now have access to the MyAcademics Enrollment Section Overview.
 
Go-Live 7 (September 2016)
New student functionality includes GPA Calculator improvements and display of Terms in Attendance and Expected Graduation Term for undergraduate students. Staff with access can now view a student's Student ID number (SID) and Terms in Attendance and Expected Graduation Term for undergraduate students, as well as General Bio-Demographic reports. New Item Type Award Entry forms for staff are now automated.
 
Go-Live 6 (August 2016)
Students can make Fall 2016 enrollment verification requests directly through CalCentral. Student scholarships, financial aid, and institutional awards are now being disbursed to eligible undergraduate and graduate students (including law). Students and their delegates can now view account activity in near real time in their CalCentral billing account. Staff with Advisor Role can now view Fall 2016 activity, including fee assessment, new charges, payments. Beginning in mid-August, aid disbursement and refunds will also be available.​
 
Go-Live 5 (March 2016)
Students can now view their enrollment appointments (available today) and enroll in fall semester 2016 classes in CalCentral. Other new CalCentral features include: scheduling advisor appointments; giving delegated access to selected trusted individuals; paying university bills with a credit card; and having all financial aid and billing information in one place. Staff with advising roles can now assign students to an academic advisor; view and release student “Holds;” and access other relevant student data. Bear Facts reporting users will be able to view selected student data reports in the Reporting Center. Instructors will be able to view Class Rosters for fall semester 2016 starting on April 18 and will have access to view relevant student data through SIS Campus Solutions.
 
Go-Live 4 (February 2016)
Thanks to the new SIS functionality from this Go-Live 4, UC Berkeley fall 2016 admitted undergraduate students will use CalCentral to process their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and receive campus onboarding messages and checklists; Undergraduate Admissions staff will use SIS to admit the new cohort of fall 2016 freshmen; Financial Aid and Scholarships Office (FASO) staff will access 2016-17 awarding cycle functionality in SIS; and more. In addition, due to the flexibility the new SIS provides, a limited number of high-achieving and high-potential undergraduate students will now be admitted in mid-February, giving them more time to explore the option of becoming Berkeley students.
 
Go-Live 3 (December 2015)
UC Berkeley students can now update their profile information in CalCentral; admitted graduate and professional students can process their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and receive campus onboarding messages and checklists in CalCentral; in January 2016, student groups and staff will be able to make classroom reservations for events for fall 2016; and more.
 
Go-Live 2 (August 2015)
The Student Information Systems (SIS) Project Team is pleased to announce the second of seven “Go-Lives.” The modules of Go-Live 2 include the conversion of course catalog data to the new SIS, the creation of bio-demographic data, new functionality for Fall 2016 class scheduling, and tools for managing student applications.
 
Go-Live 1 (June 2015)
The SIS Project is pleased to announce the launch of its “Outreach to Prospects” module, an exciting new technology that combines several separate applications into one seamless tool. Prospective students can now complete a student interest form and register for presentations from one convenient module. Staff will ultimately enjoy the streamlined ease of facilitating a student's progress through each stage of admission - from prospect to enrollment.
